Bob Shea passed away on August 1, 2024 at the age of 86.   He was a San Diego native and the 2nd son to Paul and Mildred Shea.  He attended St. Augustine High School where he excelled in athletics and art.  During his senior year he won a scholarship to an art school, but he decided that he would prefer to spend his time at the beach and in the water.  Bob started his lifeguarding career in 1956. He made his way up the ranks and was promoted to Lifeguard Captain for the City of San Diego in 1974 serving in this position until his retirement in 1981. Bob is regarded as one of the San Diego Lifeguard Services most consummate watermen ever!  There are countless stories of his heroic rescues throughout his career.  After retiring from the San Diego Lifeguards he had a successful career as a commercial diver and won many fishing competitions. Bob lived a vibrant life and will be greatly missed. 

Bob's father Paul passed away from Alzheimers, and sadly Bob was stricken with dementia as well.   The family would appreciate your donation in lieu of flowers to the San Diego Alzheimers Association in memory of  Bob.
