Susan Mary (Jeanquart) Kundrak, age 66, of San Diego CA, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 1, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Susan (Sue) was born July 15, 1957 in Green Bay, WI to James and Mary Ann Jeanquart. Sue grew up in a loving family with her sister Sandy and brother John in Green Bay, enjoying ice skating, skiing and water sports. After receiving her high school diploma from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1975, Sue attended the University of Wyoming where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Sue was a dedicated healthcare professional. With a move to California in 1978, Sue cared for patients in a cardiac care unit at Anaheim Memorial Hospital where she also happened to meet her husband Kim. They married in 1982 and later moved to San Diego where Sue served as the nursing director/coordinator of the first surgical cardiovascular unit (heart transplant center) at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Sue delighted in a special career, highlighted by spending time and praying with Mother Teresa while she helped nurse her back to health. Sue later obtained a Master’s degree and nurse practitioner certification through the University of San Diego. The last years of her career were spent as a nurse practitioner at San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center where she will be remembered for her loving and compassionate care for her patients - colleagues and employees included!

An authentic follower of Jesus Christ, Sue's choice to lean on Him throughout her illness was an amazing example to all. She walked the talk. Sue was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Kim and their son Justin were the joys of her life and being on the water with “her boys” was a highlight. Sue was a long time member of San Diego First Church of the Nazarene in Pt. Loma where she was universally loved by her community. She was active in community women’s and couple’s bible studies and started/led a mom’s prayer group for teenagers for 9 years, even as her health declined. Sue’s signature traits were her passion, grace and love for people. She showed genuine kindness, tenderness, compassion and love to each person with whom she interacted. She honored people well and considered it a privilege to walk alongside them. She was self-less, always putting others’ needs before her own. She was also the best prayer warrior in town!

Sue is survived by her loving and devoted husband Kim of 41 years; son and daughter-in-law Justin and Christina Kundrak; parents James and Mary Ann Jeanquart; sister Sandy Miles; brother and sister-in-law John and Tina Jeanquart; sisters-in-law Sherri Dunn and Karen Kundrak; beloved nieces and nephews: Jake, Annika, and Alivia Jeanquart; Thomas Miles II; Sarah, Ryan and Alex Dunn. Sue was preceded in death by her in-laws Paul and Winnie Kundrak.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Wendy Diaz, Sue’s caregiver, the family’s close friends, and the staff at Ranchview Senior Assisted Living for the love and care Sue received in her final years.

A memorial service honoring Sue will be held at the San Diego First Church of the Nazarene, 3901 Lomaland Dr., San Diego, CA on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate expressions of sympathy be made to Alzheimer’s San Diego.
